The Murlac Water Filled Temporary CofferDam is similar to other systems also available in the US such as AquaDams and Dam-it-Dams ( Both Aqua Dam and Dam-it-Dams are trademarked names and Murlac Water Inflated Temporary CofferDams are not assossiacted with either Aqua Dam or Dam-it-Dams we are simply referencing to these other known competitors as part of the explanation process of how a water filled or inflated temporary cofferdam works)

How does a Murlac Water Filled CofferDam Work?

The GeoDam Water Filled Temporary CofferDam is a cost effective solution to creating a dry environment for any civil engineering, flood defence or private works. However, providing a cost effective solution for our clients does not mean that the quality of our product is affected. In fact, MURLAC strives to ensure that all our Geo Dams are of the highest quality using the highest strength and quality geotextile for our outer shell(s) and high grade industrial rot-proof and UV stabilized lock stitch ( not chain stich like some competitors ).

Water Filled CofferDam Freeboard

GeoDams are designed to control 75% of their overall height. For example a 4ft high dam is designed to control 3ft of water and silt combined. The 25% above the waterline is referred to as Freeboard. This Freeboard is required to ensure the stability of the Water Filled Cofferdam. In some situation the freeboard may be increased to take into account slick soil conditions and wave action. Three Tubes to make a Water Filled CofferDam

GeoDam Water Filled CofferDams consist of three tubes. One outer geotextile tube within which it two water filled tubes. The Outer Geotextile tube holds the two internal polythene or PVC tubes together which creates a vertical section within the dam between the two inner tubes. As water pressure externally is applied to the dam it tries to roll. The friction of the two internal tubes prevents the dam from rolling.

MANUFACTURING HEALTH & SAFETY

Murlac strives to achieve ‘best practice’ when it comes to health and safety, and takes the view that health and safety starts when we manufacture our GeoDams.

We sew together geotextile panels using a locking stitch on a industrial twin needle sewing machine, this process is then repeated in order to double the strength of the join. This means that there is no point loading on any section of the dam. Making an installed Geodam a stable temporary structure and is able to be controlled at its maximum designed water depth.
